Florida Villas – All about Disney
Tourists flock to Florida to rent out villas and stay in the State’s many resorts for one reason – Disney World.
Stay in Florida villas for Disney
It’s amazing to think that Disney World was the result of one man’s vision. Walt Disney revolutionized theme parks and turned Florida into one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world. Thousands of families rent out Florida villas each year to fulfil what is considered to be every child’s wish – to visit Disney World.
Disney statistics
Aside from the fairytales and magic that Disney World is known for, the statistics behind the resort are phenomenal. In 1971 when it first opened with the Magic Kingdom, the resort employed 5,500 people. A staggering number – but today it employs over 58,000 people. Disney World bring millions of tourists to Florida, injecting the state with a huge cash influx as they rent out Florida villas, stay in hotels and spend their money in the shops and restaurants. Disney World also sustains a huge amount of local Floridians – it spends over $1.1 billion on payroll and $478 million on benefits each year. It is the largest single site employer in the Unites States with more than 3,000 job classifications.
Florida villas and holiday money
It isn’t just about tourists renting out Florida villas or spending their holiday money in Disney World – Walt Disney paved the way for countless other theme parks and attractions in Orlando, including Sea World and Universal Studios. It is thanks to his vision that Florida has such a huge tourist industry.
The real Florida
The resort also operates the Walt Disney World College Programme – an internship for American students to work on the resort. Tourists rent Florida villas in Orlando but can spend their entire time in Disney resorts and hardly see any of the ‘real’ Florida.
Facts and figures
The then President of Walt Disney World, Al Weiss, told a newspaper some figures on how the parks are maintained:
- Over 5,000 cast members are dedicated to maintenance and engineering, including 750 horticulturists and 600 painters.
- Disney spends more than $100 million every year on maintenance at the Magic Kingdom.
- The streets in the parks of Disney World are steam cleaned every night.
- There are staff permanently assigned to painting the antique carousel horses; they use genuine gold leaf.
- Disney has its own transport system within the resort that is free for park guests.

And if you have stayed in one of the Florida villas in Orlando and experienced Disney World, the chances are you will want to come back. The resort changes at different times of the year. Although many families rent Florida villas during the summer holidays, Christmas is also a magical time to go – Disney has 150 truckloads of holiday decorations that adorn the resort and 300,000 yards of ribbon and bow over 1,500 Christmas trees.
