The Beginning
Orlando began life as nothing more than a rudimentary settlement tacked onto a military base during the Seminole Indian wars. At the end of the war, settlers moved in and renamed the land, originally known as Jernigan to Orlando after Orlando Reeves, a soldier killed by Indians.
