The resort isn’t actually in Orlando but on the outside of Orlando’s city limits - the majority of the resort is within Orange County with the rest in Osceola County. Walt Disney World is located in the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, located southwest of Orlando and a few miles northwest of Kissimmee. Despite the huge influx of tourists to the area, the resort covers a huge expanse – twice the size of Manhattan. The land within Walt Disney World Resort is part of the Reedy Creek Improvement District which allows the Disney Corporation to exercise quasi-governmental powers over the area.
