Florida Villas – Coping with Heat
If you’re planning to rent one of the many Florida villas available throughout the year for your family holiday, be prepared to get hot, hot, hot.
Florida is one of the world’s biggest tourist attractions thanks to the allure of a mouse called Mickey and his buddies Donald and Pluto. The attraction of Disney World and the incredible number of epic theme parks that Florida features is magnetic. Millions of visitors flock to the Sunshine coast every year. Renting Florida villas is one of the most convenient, cost effective and comfortable ways of making the most of a family holiday. Many Florida villas feature all your home comforts with a few additional extras such as outdoor pools and indoor air conditioning.
Thank Goodness for Air Con!
But when you’re cooling off in the pool or enjoying the comfortable chilled air inside your Florida villa, it’s easy to forget how hot it can actually be outdoors. One of the major appeals of renting Florida villas is the weather and beaches. Florida has a vast array of activities to satisfy the most demanding child and yet still offers relaxation for the beach bum in us all.
Florida Villas – Chill Out
The British have always had an extreme relationship with the sun, perhaps because of the grey skies of home, but part of going abroad has traditionally been about getting a tan. If you are staying in one of the Florida villas particularly during the height of summer, it’s vital that you are aware not just of the potential dangers of the sun (sun burn, skin cancer) but also the impact heat can have too.
If you are staying in Florida Villas:
- Don’t sunbathe in the midday sun, even if you have a pool in your Florida villa to help keep you cool – the sun is at its fiercest and most dangerous.
- Heat waves can strike in Florida with uncomfortably hot and humid weather. Make sure you keep indoors in air conditioned rooms – most Florida Villas have air con, and all tourist attractions will be equipped with air con too.
- Humidity and high air temperature make it difficult for the body to cool itself, if you are outdoors take things slowly, avoid strenuous activity, dress coolly and drink plenty of water.
- If you have a rental car with your Florida villa, don’t leave it parked with children or pets inside – car temperatures can raise to 135 degrees in less than ten minutes, which can be fatal to children or pets!
- Don’t drink alcohol – it dehydrates you.
- Spend more time in air conditioned places – Florida villas tend to be relaxing, all-American homes and sometimes it’s nice just to kick back in your luxury ‘home from home.’
