Florida Villas for the Culture Vulture
Staying in Florida villas isn’t just for the Disney fans, there’s plenty for the culture vulture too.
Florida villas for culture vultures
America is one big melting pot, and Florida is no different. Perhaps it’s easy to think of the State in terms of Disney and nothing else, but if you decide to rent one of the many Florida villas across the state, you’ll find there’s plenty for the culture vulture too.
Diverse ethnic influences
Florida is a collage of ethnicity with tropical latitudes and a seaworthy heritage. As well as Mickey Mouse caps and hotdogs, you’ll find sizzling music, fiery foods and great art. Every town in Florida, no matter where you’re renting your Florida villa, offers diversity and ethnic influences.
African-American heritage
The majority of tourists will be renting Florida villas in Orlando in order to be near the famous theme parks. Orlando and Eatonville boast the first community ruled by African-Americans and Eatonville is home to the Black Harlem author, Zora Neale Hurston. During Hurston’s time, black professionals would travel to Parramore in Orlando – a segregated community. Here Count Basie and Duke Ellington played at the South Street Casino amongst other famous musicians of the era. Now you can visit a museum at the Well’s Built Hotel chronicling the heyday of the black community and there are always festivals, restaurants and artisan shops that celebrate the African-American heritage.
Rent Florida villas – enjoy a taste of Greece
If you’re renting one of the many Florida villas in the central region of the State, it’s worth visiting Tarpon Springs. It’s here that the sponging industry began a century ago when Greek divers came to harvest the sea. And thanks to the sponges, the neighbourhood draws plenty of swarthy seamen, creating a living museum of the docks. The smell of Greek pastries fills the air in the marketplace and there are plenty of Greek restaurants with annual Epiphany festivities in January. So you can enjoy a taste of Greece, even if you are renting villas in Florida.
Florida sightseeing
If you decide to rent one of the Florida villas across the state and use it as a base to go sightseeing there is plenty to experience if you’re willing to travel. St Augustine in North Florida has a Spanish twist, alongside Greeks and Africans to add spice.
In South Florida, you’ll find African-American, Japanese, Haitian and Bahamian cultures at Delray Beach with historic sites memorializing the civil rights movements. If you want some Cuban fire, Key West still features the art, cuisine, architecture and cigar factories and Miami is another living museum of culture.
Whatever your tastes, if you are staying in one of the fabulous Florida villas across the State, you’ll find something that’s just right for you.
