• Have a whistle on board or in your pocket – if you get lost, a whistle could get you found again.
• If you are going on a serious kayak tour, take a VHF radio with you for weather broadcasts and emergency call outs. Taking a mobile phone with you if you are just going for a short trip is also advisable.
• Again if you are going on a serious trip than take an emergency kit including extra clothing, water, flashlight, first aid kit and high energy bars. The chances are if you are tourists staying in a Florida villa that you will only go on short guided tour but always take water with you. You don’t want to get dehydrated in the Florida sun.

The likelihood is if you are a tourist in Florida staying in one of the hotels, apartments or villas, you will only be taking guided tours in kayaks.
