Florida Villas – Safety for Tourists

No matter where you travel in the world, whether you are staying in hostels in India, campsites in Australia or luxury Florida villas, you should be prepared.

No matter where you are in the world, you should read up about the area you are visiting and ensure you follow any safety guidelines or take precautions as necessary. Renting one of the hundreds of Florida villas available is a safe option – and good travel agents will ensure their Florida villas are well managed locally to comply with all health and safety issues. But there are still some factors you should be wary of whenever you travel abroad.

Crime

If you are staying in one of the many Florida villas in Orlando it is reassuring to know that Walt Disney World and Orlando are generally safe and the theme park areas are even safer. That said, it is still a major city and crime is not unheard of so you should take the same general precautions you would at home. Look out for street signs in downtown Orlando – they are there to help keep visitors from wandering into the less-desirable neighbourhoods. Ask the local tourist office if in doubt.

If you’re staying in one of the luxury Florida villas in Orlando take the same precautions you would at home:

  • Ensure doors and windows are locked
  • Do not leave valuables lying around in the outdoor area

Walking around Orlando, make sure your money, credit cards, passport etc. are in a money belt you can wear at all times. It’s advisable just to take a day’s worth of money with you, and keep the remainder safe. If in the unlikely event that you do have an emergency, report it as quickly as possible by calling tel. 911, which is the emergency police, ambulance, and fire number throughout Florida.

Nature

Alligators

Floridians have learned to coexist with alligators, but if you’re a tourist staying in one of the many Florida villas across the State, you should be aware of the reptiles which are found in all 67 counties. It is incredibly rare that humans are attacked but you should take extra precautions if you have pets staying in your Florida villa with you. Often, if left alone, alligators will retreat from areas inhabited by people for more isolated spots.
If you are staying in one of Florida’s villas located near water, you should be especially vigilant.

Insects

With the warm and humid climate found throughout much of Florida, a wide range of insects can become pests. If you are staying in Florida villas you will have all the mod cons of the modern American home – but if taking trips such as canoe or kayak daytrips, bike rides and hikes, always take insect repellent.
