Florida Villas – Trains, Planes and Automobiles

If you’re staying in one of the Florida villas in Orlando, check out our guide to transport in the area.

Once you’ve arrived at your Florida villa and unpacked, chances are you’ll need to catch a bus, train, plane or rent a car if you want to do more than just hang around your private pool. So what’s the best way to get around in Orlando?

Bus

Buses for long haul trips in America have never had a great reputation and Orlando is no different. The bus station is miles out of town on Highway 423. Although the Greyhound’s will take you to any major city in Florida, just getting to the bus station is a challenge in itself if you’re staying in one of the Florida villas, hotels or resorts in the Disney area. It may be cheaper getting a Greyhound, but by the time you’ve factored in the taxi to the bus station, it’s probably easier and just as cost effective to go by train.

Town centre buses

However, if you’re spending the day in Orlando city there is an efficient and cheap bus system with a free downtown circuit.

Train

Amtrak runs services from Orlando to major cities including Miami and Gainesville. The station is easier to get to than the bus station, being just one mile south of Central Orlando. If you’re based in one of the Florida villas in the area, the chances are you are there to explore Disney World but if you are thinking of taking a few days out to see the rest of the country, using Orlando International Airport will take you anywhere you want to go.

Plane

Orlando International Airport is based in the far southeastern corner of Orlando and as it is the largest in Florida, it is served by all major airlines and discount airlines. If you’re staying in Florida villas, hotels or resorts in the area but are looking for a few days adventure, it’s worth checking out any offers or last minute deals on flights. If you can’t wait to get to Disney World, you can pitch up at your Florida villa later to unpack – hire a car and Highway 417 to Highway 536 will take you straight to Disney World from the airport.

Taxi

If you want a taxi keep in mind that in Orlando you have to pre-book using the phone. They don’t stop if you’re trying to flag them down on the pavement.

Car hire

If you’re staying in one of the Florida villas in the area, car rental is a must. America is car-centric and it is simply easier if you have access to one if you want to travel around the State. You’ll find hire car companies at the airport. If you are spending the day in the city however, it’s easier and cheaper to take advantage of the free downtown bus service. Driving in the city is a maze of one-way streets and parking is difficult
